Used For :

  1. Dilates the pupil for eye examinations (mydriasis).

  2. Temporarily relaxes the eye’s focusing muscles (cycloplegia).

  3. Helps in diagnosing refractive errors and retinal issues.

  4. Often used before or after eye surgery.

  5. Acts quickly, with effects lasting about 4–6 hours.

Side Effects:

  • Blurred vision

  • Sensitivity to bright light

  • Stinging or burning sensation

  • Dry mouth, dizziness (rare)

  • Increased eye pressure (in susceptible patients)

Precautions:

  • Do not drive until vision clears

  • Avoid use in glaucoma unless directed by an eye doctor

  • Remove contact lenses before application

  • Use sunglasses to protect from light

  • Only use under medical guidance—especially in children or elderly
