Used For:

Moxizak 400 mg is prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:

  1. Respiratory Tract Infections:
    • Community-acquired pneumonia
    • Acute bacterial sinusitis
    • Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
  2. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Complicated bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues.
  3. Intra-Abdominal Infections: Complicated intra-abdominal infections, such as peritonitis or abscesses.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain

Serious but less common side effects include:

  • Tendon Rupture: Increased risk, especially in older adults or those on corticosteroids.
  • QT Prolongation: Abnormal heart rhythms which could lead to severe cardiac complications.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Nerve damage causing pain, tingling, or numbness.
  • Liver Problems: Elevated liver enzymes, jaundice, or liver damage.
  • Severe Allergic Reactions: Rash, swelling, itching, difficulty breathing, or anaphylaxis.

Precautions:

  1. Tendon Damage: Avoid strenuous physical activity, as moxifloxacin can increase the risk of tendonitis or rupture. Stop the medication and consult a doctor if you experience tendon pain or swelling.
  2. Heart Conditions: Patients with a history of QT prolongation or other heart rhythm issues should use the medication cautiously, with regular heart monitoring if necessary.
  3. Liver Function: Patients with liver disease should monitor liver enzyme levels while on this medication.
  4. Peripheral Neuropathy: Stop using the medication if you experience any numbness, tingling, or weakness.
  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Moxifloxacin is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Consult your doctor before use.
  6. Drug Interactions: Moxifloxacin may interact with medications that affect heart rhythms (e.g., antiarrhythmics) or antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, which can reduce its absorption.
