Used For:
Moxibact Tablets (Moxifloxacin 400 mg) are prescribed for:
-
Respiratory Tract Infections:
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: For complicated bacterial infections of the skin.
- Intra-Abdominal Infections: Complicated infections inside the abdomen, such as abscesses.
- Other Bacterial Infections: When bacteria are susceptible to moxifloxacin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
Less common but serious side effects include:
- Tendon Rupture: Especially in elderly patients or those using corticosteroids.
- QT Prolongation: Abnormal heart rhythms, which can lead to severe cardiac issues.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Nerve damage that causes pain, tingling, or numbness in the extremities.
- Liver Problems: Liver toxicity, jaundice, or increased liver enzymes.
- Severe Allergic Reactions: Rash, hives, swelling, and in rare cases, anaphylaxis.
Precautions:
- Tendon Rupture Risk: Avoid strenuous exercise during treatment, especially if you experience tendon pain or swelling.
- Heart Conditions: Patients with heart rhythm disorders, especially those with QT prolongation, should use this medication cautiously.
- Liver and Kidney Function: Regular monitoring may be necessary in patients with pre-existing liver or kidney conditions.
- Nerve Damage: Discontinue the medication if symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (tingling, numbness) occur.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Moxifloxacin should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
- Drug Interactions: Moxifloxacin interacts with antacids, iron supplements, and other drugs that affect the heart rhythm. Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking.
