Used For:
Moxibact Infusion (Moxifloxacin 400 mg) is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:
- Community-Acquired Pneumonia: Bacterial infections of the lungs.
- Complicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: For infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
- Intra-Abdominal Infections: Complicated infections of the abdomen.
- Chronic Bronchitis: Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Sinusitis: Acute bacterial sinus infections.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Moxibact Infusion may include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
Serious side effects (though rare) may include:
- Tendon Rupture: Increased risk of tendonitis or tendon rupture, especially in elderly patients or those on corticosteroids.
- QT Prolongation: Can cause abnormal heart rhythms, which can lead to severe cardiac issues, especially in patients with heart conditions.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Numbness, pain, or tingling in the extremities.
- Liver Toxicity: Liver damage or increased liver enzymes, leading to jaundice or liver failure in rare cases.
- Severe Allergic Reactions: Anaphylaxis, rash, swelling, and difficulty breathing.
Precautions:
- Tendon Damage: Avoid strenuous activities while on moxifloxacin, as it increases the risk of tendon damage. Stop the infusion immediately if any tendon pain or swelling occurs.
- Heart Conditions: Patients with a history of QT prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte imbalances, or those on other medications affecting heart rhythm should use moxifloxacin cautiously. Regular heart monitoring may be required.
- Liver Function: Patients with liver impairment or those at risk of liver damage should have regular liver function tests during treatment.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Moxifloxacin can cause nerve damage, and patients should immediately report any sensations of tingling, numbness, or weakness.
- Increased Risk of Infections: Moxifloxacin may increase susceptibility to secondary infections, including Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Moxifloxacin is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
- Drug Interactions: Avoid taking antacids or supplements containing magnesium or aluminum within a few hours of the infusion, as they can interfere with moxifloxacin’s effectiveness. Inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you're taking, including antiarrhythmic drugs, as they may interact.
