Used For:

  1. Respiratory Tract Infections:
    • Community-acquired pneumonia
    • Acute bacterial sinusitis
    • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
  2. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Effective for treating complicated skin infections such as cellulitis and abscesses.
  3. Intra-abdominal Infections: Used for complicated intra-abdominal infections, including peritonitis.
  4. Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Although Moxifloxacin is also available as eye drops, the tablet form is used for systemic infections.
  5. Complicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Occasionally prescribed for severe or complicated UTIs.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  1. Nausea or Vomiting

Serious but rare side effects:

  1. Tendon Rupture or Tendonitis: Higher risk in older adults and those on corticosteroids.

Precautions:

  1. Tendon Problems: Increased risk of tendon injury, especially in older adults and those taking corticosteroids.
  2. Heart Conditions: Use with caution in patients with a history of heart rhythm disorders, such as QT prolongation.
  3. Liver Function: Monitor liver function, particularly in patients with liver disease.
  4. Sun Sensitivity: Moxifloxacin can increase sensitivity to sunlight; avoid excessive sun exposure.
  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding, as safety during pregnancy is not fully established.
