Used For:

• Long-term contraception (Over 99% effective for up to 5–8 years).
• Treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding (Reduces blood flow significantly).
• Endometriosis & Adenomyosis Management (Helps reduce pain and symptoms).
• Hormone therapy for perimenopause (Used alongside estrogen therapy).

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Irregular bleeding or spotting (first 3–6 months).
  • Headache, nausea, or breast tenderness.
  • Mild cramping after insertion.

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Expulsion (IUD may move out of place).
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) – Higher risk in the first few weeks after insertion.
  • Ovarian cysts (usually resolve on their own).
  • Perforation (very rare) – The IUD may puncture the uterus during insertion.

Precautions:

• Not suitable for women with active pelvic infections or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
