Used For:

1. Nausea and vomiting – particularly in cases of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or after surgery.
2. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) – helps in preventing the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus.
3. Gastroparesis – particularly in diabetic patients, by enhancing the movement of the stomach muscles.
4. To aid in diagnostic procedures – such as radiographic exams.

Side Effects:

1. Drowsiness or sedation
2. Restlessness or agitation
3. Fatigue
4. Diarrhea
5. Dizziness
6. Extrapyramidal symptoms (involuntary muscle movements, tremors, or rigidity) – more likely in higher doses or prolonged use
7. Tardive dyskinesia (rare but serious) – can occur with long-term use
8. Depression or mood changes

Precautions:

1. Pregnancy and breastfeeding – should only be used if prescribed by a doctor.
2. Kidney or liver impairment – dosage adjustments may be necessary.
3. Existing neurological conditions – such as Parkinson's disease, as metoclopramide can worsen symptoms.
