Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Maxflow-D is used to treat urinary symptoms caused by BPH, such as:
- Difficulty starting urination
- Weak urine stream
- Frequent urination, especially at night
- Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying
Dutasteride works by shrinking the prostate over time (reducing the levels of dihydrotestosterone, a hormone involved in prostate growth), while Tamsulosin helps relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Sexual Dysfunction: Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders (retrograde ejaculation or reduced semen volume).
- Dizziness or Lightheadedness: Particularly when standing up quickly, due to a drop in blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension).
- Headache: Some patients may experience mild headaches.
- Gynecomastia: Enlargement or tenderness of the breasts.
- Runny or Stuffy Nose (Rhinitis): Nasal congestion or cold-like symptoms.
Precautions
Before using Maxflow-D, consider the following precautions:
- Prostate Cancer Screening: Dutasteride can lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, which may mask the detection of prostate cancer. Regular screening is important.
- Cataract Surgery: Tamsulosin can cause complications during cataract surgery (intraoperative floppy iris syndrome), so inform your eye surgeon if you are taking this medication.
- Hypotension: Use with caution in patients with a history of low blood pressure or those taking medications that lower blood pressure.
- Severe Liver Disease: Dutasteride is metabolized by the liver, so patients with significant liver impairment should use this medication with caution.
- Women and Children: Maxflow-D is not intended for use in women or children. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid handling crushed or broken capsules, as Dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin and may harm a male fetus.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your healthcare provider about all medications being taken, particularly those that lower blood pressure or affect prostate size.
Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice regarding dosage, side effects, and monitoring while taking this medication.
