Used For:

  1. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD):
    • Primarily used to treat depression by improving mood, sleep, and appetite.
  2. Anxiety Disorders (Off-Label Use):
    • Used in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and panic disorder.
  3. Insomnia (Off-Label Use):
    • Helps improve sleep due to its sedative effects.
  4. Appetite Stimulation:
    • Often prescribed for patients with depression who experience significant weight loss or poor appetite.
  5. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (Off-Label Use).
  6. Neuropathic Pain (Off-Label Use):
    • Occasionally used to manage chronic pain conditions.
Side Effects:
  • Common Side Effects:

    • Sedation or drowsiness (more pronounced at lower doses).
    • Increased appetite and weight gain.
    • Dry mouth.
    • Constipation.
    • Dizziness.
  • Less Common Side Effects:

    • Restlessness or agitation.
    • Low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension).

Precautions:
