Product Description

Product Name: Lantus Solostar Injection 100ml

Product Form: Injection

Pack Size: 100ml

Manufactured By: Sanofi

Used For:

  1. Type 1 Diabetes:

    • Used as a basal insulin to help maintain steady blood sugar levels throughout the day and night in individuals with Type 1 diabetes, who no longer produce insulin.
  2. Type 2 Diabetes:

    • For people with Type 2 diabetes who cannot achieve adequate blood sugar control with oral medications alone or need insulin therapy to manage their condition.
  3. Basal Insulin:

    • Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin, meaning it works slowly over an extended period, typically 24 hours, to provide a consistent insulin level and maintain stable blood glucose.

Side Effects:

  1. Common Side Effects:
    • Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar): If the insulin dose is too high or the individual does not eat enough, they may experience symptoms of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion, dizziness, or irritability).
    • Injection site reactions: Redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site.
    • Weight gain: A common side effect due to the body's increased ability to store glucose.
  2. Serious Side Effects:
    • Severe Hypoglycemia: If blood sugar drops too low, it can lead to unconsciousness or seizures. This is a medical emergency.
    • Allergic Reactions: Rashes, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
    • Lipodystrophy: Long-term use at the same injection sites can lead to changes in fat tissue (either thickening or wasting) under the skin.

Precautions:

  1. Hypoglycemia Risk:

    • Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is required, especially if insulin doses are adjusted, when switching from other insulins, or if there are changes in diet, exercise, or health conditions.
  2. Other Medications:

    • Be aware of potential interactions with other medications, particularly those that affect blood sugar, such as oral antidiabetic drugs or beta-blockers (which may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia).
  3. Alcohol and Food:

    • Alcohol and certain foods can influence blood sugar levels, so it’s important to discuss with your doctor how insulin glargine fits into your lifestyle, diet, and alcohol consumption.
  4. Kidney or Liver Disease:

    • Caution is needed in patients with renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) disease, as insulin requirements may need to be adjusted.
  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

    • Insulin glargine is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but any insulin therapy should be managed by a healthcare provider to adjust for changes in insulin needs during pregnancy.
