Used For:

• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid, relieving symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.
• Peptic Ulcers: Treats and prevents stomach ulcers, particularly those caused by H. pylori infection or long-term use of NSAIDs.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Manages conditions of excessive stomach acid production.
• Erosive Esophagitis: Promotes healing of the esophagus damaged by stomach acid.

Side Effects:

• Common: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.
• Serious: Long-term use may lead to:
  • Bone fractures (hip, wrist, or spine).
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Low magnesium levels (causing muscle cramps or irregular heartbeats).
