Used For:

  • Ovulation induction in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like IVF

  • Final follicular maturation triggering prior to egg retrieval

  • Luteal phase support in fertility treatments

  • Treatment of female infertility (anovulation)

Side Effects:

  • Common:

    • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) - abdominal pain/swelling

    • Headache, fatigue

    • Injection site reactions (pain, redness)

    • Breast tenderness

  • Serious (rare):

    • Severe OHSS (requiring hospitalization)

    • Thromboembolic events

    • Allergic reactions

Precaution:

  • Strict medical supervision required (fertility specialist only)

  • Contraindicated in:

    • Primary ovarian failure

    • Uncontrolled thyroid/adrenal disorders

    • Pituitary tumors

    • Pregnancy (except as part of ART protocol)

  • Requires ultrasound monitoring of follicular development
