Used For:

Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain types of bone and joint infections. It works by stopping bacterial DNA replication, thereby killing the bacteria.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Serious side effects can include tendon rupture, nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy), mood changes, seizures, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. It may also disrupt gut flora, leading to Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

Precautions:

• Avoid use if allergic to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones, as it may trigger severe reactions.
• Do not take with dairy products or calcium-fortified drinks alone, as they can interfere with absorption.
• Use with caution if you have a history of tendonitis or tendon rupture, as ciprofloxacin can increase this risk, particularly in older adults.
• People with a history of seizures, kidney disease, or liver disease should consult a healthcare provider before use, as it may exacerbate these conditions.
