Used For:
- Organ Transplantation: Used to prevent organ rejection in patients who have received a kidney, liver, or heart transplant by suppressing the immune system.
- Autoimmune Diseases: Helps manage conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), and autoimmune hepatitis by reducing immune system activity.
Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common, especially at the beginning of treatment.
- Blood Disorders: Leukopenia (low white blood cell count), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), and anemia, increasing the risk of infection and bleeding.
