Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used to treat depression and, in some cases, anxiety disorders. It is also prescribed for enuresis (bedwetting) in children over six years old. It works by increasing levels of certain neurotransmitters (like norepinephrine and serotonin) in the brain to improve mood.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, and sweating. Serious side effects can include irregular heartbeats, low blood pressure, confusion, and risk of overdose. Long-term use may also lead to sexual dysfunction.

Precautions:

• Avoid imipramine if you have a history of heart disease, as it can increase the risk of heart issues.
• Use with caution in people with glaucoma, urinary retention, or a history of seizures, as it may worsen these conditions.
• Imipramine can interact with other medications, particularly MAOIs, SSRIs, and certain antihypertensives, increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome or other adverse effects.
