Used For:

  • Treats acute diarrhea, especially in children and adults

  • Reduces excess fluid secretion in the intestines

  • Helps manage non-infectious and infectious diarrhea

  • Often used as an add-on to oral rehydration therapy (ORS)

  • Works by inhibiting enkephalinase to reduce intestinal secretions

Side Effects:

  • Headache, skin rash

  • Nausea, vomiting (rare)

  • Abdominal pain (occasionally)

Precaution:

  • Not a replacement for rehydration therapy

  • Avoid in children under 3 months (unless prescribed)

  • Do not use if there is blood in stool or high fever—consult a doctor
