Used For:
Hiflox 500mg Tablets contain ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is effective for:
- Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Gastrointestinal infections (e.g., traveler’s diarrhea)
- Bone and joint infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g., gonorrhea)
- Ear infections (otitis externa)
Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, leading to bacterial death.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Headache
- Dizziness
Serious side effects (rare):
- Tendonitis or tendon rupture (especially in older adults or those on corticosteroids)
- Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
- Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (severe diarrhea)
- Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage)
- Mood changes or seizures
Precautions:
- Allergy: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any components of the tablet.
- Tendon Issues: Ciprofloxacin is associated with tendonitis and tendon rupture, especially in older adults, those on corticosteroids, and athletes. Stop using the medication if you experience tendon pain or swelling.
- Kidney or Liver Disease: Use with caution if you have kidney or liver disease, as dosage adjustments may be required.
- Children: Avoid use in children unless specifically prescribed by a healthcare provider, as ciprofloxacin may affect bone growth.

- Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids while on this medication to prevent crystalluria (crystal formation in urine).
