Used For:

• Type 2 Diabetes Management – Helps lower blood sugar when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
• Ertugliflozin (SGLT2 Inhibitor):
  • Helps kidneys remove excess glucose through urine.
  • May assist in weight loss and blood pressure reduction.
• Sitagliptin (DPP-4 Inhibitor):
  • Increases insulin secretion after meals.
  • Lowers glucagon levels, reducing blood sugar spikes.

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Genital yeast infections
  • Mild nausea, diarrhea
  • Headache

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Ketoacidosis (Ertugliflozin-related, rare but serious) – Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, extreme fatigue
  • Severe UTIs or kidney infections
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – More likely if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas
  • Pancreatitis (Sitagliptin-related) – Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Dehydration & Low Blood Pressure – Especially in elderly patients
  • Joint pain or allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Not for Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Stay hydrated to prevent dehydration and kidney issues
• Monitor for infections (UTIs, genital infections)
• Use with caution in patients with kidney or heart disease
• Not recommended for patients with severe kidney disease (eGFR <30 mL/min)
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake to prevent ketoacidosis
