Used For:

• Type 2 Diabetes Management – Helps lower blood sugar levels, often in combination with other antidiabetic drugs.
• Improves insulin release after meals and reduces excessive glucagon production.
• May help in weight-neutral diabetes control (unlike some other diabetes medications that cause weight gain).

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Upper respiratory infections (cold-like symptoms)

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) – Symptoms: Severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Joint pain – Can be severe in some cases
  • Allergic reactions – Rash, swelling, difficulty breathing
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – More likely if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas
  • Kidney problems – Swelling in legs, changes in urination
