Used For:

  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Sitagliptin increases insulin production and reduces glucose levels, especially after meals, while metformin improves insulin sensitivity and lowers glucose production by the liver.

Side Effects:

  • Common:
    • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort) from metformin
    • Upper respiratory tract infections (sitagliptin)
    • Headache
  • Less Common:
    • Lactic acidosis (rare but serious; linked to metformin)
    • Pancreatitis (rare; associated with sitagliptin)

Precautions:
