Used For:

  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Helps control blood sugar levels by enhancing insulin release (sitagliptin) and improving insulin sensitivity while reducing glucose production (metformin).

Side Effects:

  • Common:
    • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort) due to metformin
    • Upper respiratory tract infections (due to sitagliptin)
    • Headache
  • Less Common:
    • Lactic acidosis (rare but serious; related to metformin)
    • Pancreatitis (rare; associated with sitagliptin)

Precautions:

  • Kidney Function: Regular monitoring is essential to reduce the risk of lactic acidosis from metformin.
