Used For:

  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Helps control blood sugar levels when diet, exercise, or other medications alone are not sufficient.

Side Effects:

  • Common:
    • Pioglitazone: Weight gain, fluid retention (edema)
    • Glimepiride: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), dizziness
  • Less Common:
    • Bone fractures (pioglitazone)
    • Liver function abnormalities
    • Risk of heart failure (pioglitazone)

Precautions:

  • Heart Failure Risk: Pioglitazone may cause or worsen heart failure due to fluid retention.
