Used For:

  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Helps control blood sugar levels in patients who cannot manage it through diet and exercise alone.

Side Effects:

  • Glimepiride:

    • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
    • Weight gain
    • Dizziness

  • Metformin:

    • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea)
    • Rare risk of lactic acidosis (especially in kidney impairment)

Precautions:

  • Kidney Function: Monitor regularly due to the risk of lactic acidosis with metformin.
  • Hypoglycemia Risk: Especially when combined with other antidiabetic medications.
