Used For:

• Type 2 Diabetes Management – Improves blood sugar control
• Empagliflozin (SGLT2 Inhibitor) – Helps kidneys remove excess glucose through urine
• Linagliptin (DPP-4 Inhibitor) – Increases insulin release and decreases glucagon levels
• May reduce cardiovascular risks in diabetic patients with heart disease

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Genital yeast infections (more common in women)
  • Mild nausea or diarrhea

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Ketoacidosis – Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, fatigue
  • Severe UTIs or kidney infections
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – More likely if taken with insulin or sulfonylureas
  • Pancreatitis (Linagliptin-related) – Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Dehydration & Low Blood Pressure – Especially in elderly patients
  • Joint pain or allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Not for Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Stay hydrated to prevent dehydration and kidney issues
• Monitor for signs of infection (UTIs, genital infections)
• Use with caution in patients with kidney or heart disease
• Not recommended for patients with severe kidney diseasen
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake to prevent ketoacidosis
