Used For:

• Lowers blood sugar levels in Type 2 Diabetes
• Improves insulin sensitivity and reduces liver glucose production (Metformin)
• Enhances insulin secretion and lowers glucagon levels (Sitagliptin)

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Lactic Acidosis (Metformin-related) – Symptoms: Weakness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing
  • Pancreatitis (Sitagliptin-related) – Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Kidney problems – Swelling in legs, changes in urination
  • Low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) – Especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas
  • Allergic reactions – Skin rash, itching, swelling
