Used For:

1. Prevention of Blood Clots:
   • In patients undergoing surgery or who are immobile for long periods.
2. Treatment of Blood Clots:
   • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
   • Pulmonary embolism (PE)
   • Atrial fibrillation with clot formation
3. Cardiac Conditions:
   • Acute coronary syndrome, unstable angina, or myocardial infarction.
4. Maintenance of Medical Devices:
   • Prevents clotting in catheters, dialysis machines, or during extracorporeal circulation.

Side Effects:

1. Common:

   • Mild pain, redness, or irritation at the injection site.
   • Mild bruising or bleeding.

2. Serious:

   • Bleeding Complications: Prolonged or heavy bleeding, blood in urine or stool, or unusual bruising.
   • Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT): A rare immune reaction causing low platelet counts and increased clotting risk.
   • Osteoporosis with prolonged use.
   • Hypersensitivity reactions (rash, itching, or difficulty breathing).

Precautions:
