Used For:

  1. Skin Infections:

    • Impetigo (school sores)

    • Infected wounds or cuts

    • Infected eczema

    • Folliculitis

    • Boils (furuncles)

  2. Eye Infections:

    • Bacterial conjunctivitis (in the form of eye drops or ointment)

  3. Other Infections:

    • Osteomyelitis (bone infections, in oral or injectable form)

    • Infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.

Side Effects:

Fusidic Acid is generally well-tolerated, but some side effects may occur:

Topical Use (Cream/Ointment):

  • Skin irritation, redness, or itching at the application site.

  • Burning or stinging sensation.

  • Allergic reactions (rare).

Oral or Injectable Use:

  • Gastrointestinal issues (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).

  • Liver dysfunction (elevated liver enzymes, jaundice).

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).

Eye Use (Drops/Ointment):

  • Temporary blurred vision.

  • Eye irritation or discomfort.

Precautions:

  1. Allergies: Avoid if you have a known allergy to Fusidic Acid or any of its components.

  2. Resistance: Use only as prescribed to avoid antibiotic resistance. Do not overuse or use for longer than recommended.

  3. Liver Function: Monitor liver function if using oral Fusidic Acid, especially in long-term treatment.

  4. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use, as safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not fully established.

  5. Avoid Contact: For topical use, avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth.

  6. Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking other medications, as Fusidic Acid may interact with drugs like statins (e.g., simvastatin) or antivirals.
