Used For:

• Respiratory infections – Pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Intra-abdominal infections
• Eye infections (as eye drops for bacterial conjunctivitis)
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs) (less commonly used due to resistance concerns)

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Abdominal pain

• Serious (but rare):

  • Tendon rupture or tendonitis (higher risk in older adults and those on steroids)
  • Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) – Tingling, numbness, or burning sensations
  • Heart issues – Prolonged QT interval, leading to irregular heartbeats
  • Liver toxicity – Symptoms like yellowing of the skin (jaundice)
  • Mental health effects – Anxiety, confusion, or hallucinations in rare cases
