Used For:

  • Treatment of bacterial infections, including:
    • Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
    • Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland).
    • Gonorrhea (certain cases).

 

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
  • Serious: Tendon rupture, nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy), severe hypersensitivity reactions, photosensitivity, QT prolongation.

 

Precautions:

  • Tendon Injury: Increased risk in older adults or those on corticosteroids.
  • QT Prolongation: Use cautiously in patients with heart rhythm disorders or medications that prolong QT interval.
  • Photosensitivity: Avoid prolonged sunlight exposure; use protective measures.
  • Avoid use in pregnant or breastfeeding women and children due to potential cartilage damage.
