Used For:

• Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.
• Helps relieve symptoms such as difficulty in urination, weak stream, and frequent or urgent urination by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck.

Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up (postural hypotension).
• Runny or stuffy nose.
• Abnormal ejaculation (e.g., decreased amount of semen).
• Headache.
• Rarely, allergic reactions like skin rash, itching, or swelling.

Precautions:

• Use caution in patients with low blood pressure or a history of fainting.
• Avoid activities that require alertness (e.g., driving) until you know how the medication affects you.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any planned cataract or glaucoma surgery, as tamsulosin can affect the pupil during surgery (a condition called Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome).
• Take the medication 30 minutes after the same meal each day for best results
