Used For:

  • Treatment of chronic stable angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart).
  • Prevention of angina attacks in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond well to other treatments like beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers.

 

Side Effects:

  • Headache (common, especially at the start of treatment).
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Flushing or a warm feeling.
  • Gastrointestinal issues like nausea or stomach pain.
  • Rarely, mouth or gastrointestinal ulcers.

 

Precautions:

  • Avoid use in patients with severe hypotension (low blood pressure).
  • Caution in individuals taking PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil) due to the risk of a severe drop in blood pressure.
  • Regular monitoring for potential ulcers, particularly if symptoms of abdominal pain occur.
