Exforge Hct tablets are a combination medication used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It contains three active ingredients:
- Amlodipine (10 mg): A calcium channel blocker that helps relax blood vessels and improve blood flow.
- Valsartan (160 mg): An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that helps relax blood vessels by blocking the action of a natural substance that constricts blood vessels.
- Hydrochlorothiazide (25 mg): A thiazide diuretic that helps reduce blood pressure by removing excess fluid from the body and relaxing blood vessels.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Exforge Hct 10/160/25mg may include:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Swelling of the ankles or feet
- Dry cough (more common with ARBs, though less likely with valsartan)

Less common but more serious side effects may include:
- Severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)
- Severe low blood pressure (e.g., symptoms like fainting, severe dizziness)
- Kidney issues (e.g., changes in urine output, blood in urine)
- Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., low potassium or sodium levels)
- Liver problems (e.g., jaundice, dark urine)
- Hyperglycemia or changes in blood sugar levels
Precautions:
- Blood Pressure Monitoring: Regular monitoring of blood pressure is important to ensure the medication is working effectively and to adjust dosage as needed.
- Kidney and Liver Function: Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function is advised, as the medication can affect these organs. Dose adjustments may be necessary for those with pre-existing conditions.
- Electrolyte Imbalance: Hydrochlorothiazide can lead to imbalances in electrolytes (potassium, sodium), so regular blood tests may be required.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Exforge Hct is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential risks. Consult your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your healthcare provider of all other medications and supplements you are taking, as Exforge Hct can interact with other drugs, including other antihypertensives, potassium supplements, and medications affecting kidney function.
