Used For:

Hypoglycemia:
- Treats low blood sugar caused by excessive insulin production (hyperinsulinism).
- Conditions include insulinoma, islet cell tumors, or idiopathic hypoglycemia in infants and children.

Hypertensive Emergencies (Off-Label):
- Occasionally used to manage acute, severe hypertension by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and reducing blood pressure.
Side Effects:
Common:
- Fluid retention and swelling (edema)
- Increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia)
- Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
- Weakness or fatigue
- Dizziness
Serious:
- Heart complications, including congestive heart failure (due to fluid retention)
- Pulmonary edema
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Skin rash or allergic reactions
- Hyperuricemia (high uric acid levels), which may lead to gout
- Leukopenia or thrombocytopenia (reduced white blood cells or platelets, rare)
