Manufactured By: High-Q Pharma

Used For:

Empagli 10mg contains Empagliflozin, which is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It is used for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults by helping to lower blood sugar levels. Empagliflozin works by:

  • Reducing the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, allowing excess glucose to be excreted through urine.
  • It may also help reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke, in patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular disease.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Genital yeast infections (especially in women)
  • Increased thirst
  • Low blood sugar (when combined with insulin or other diabetes medications)
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure (especially in patients who take diuretics or are dehydrated)

Precautions:

  • Kidney function: This medication may not be suitable for patients with severe kidney issues. Regular monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
  • Heart disease: If you have a history of cardiovascular disease, consult your doctor before starting this medication.
  • Dehydration: Increased urination can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Hypoglycemia risk: While empagliflozin alone is unlikely to cause low blood sugar, it may do so when taken with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Empagli should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless prescribed by a healthcare professional.
  • Liver problems: Use with caution if you have liver issues.
  • Ketoacidosis: Rarely, SGLT2 inhibitors like empagliflozin may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious condition. Seek medical attention if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, or severe fatigue occur.
