Product Form: Tablets

Pack Size: 14s

Manufactured By: Tabros Pharma

Used For:

Elzanor 5/1000mg Tablet is prescribed to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains two active ingredients:

  1. Dapagliflozin (5 mg): An SGLT2 inhibitor that helps reduce blood sugar levels by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to its excretion in urine.
  2. Metformin (1000 mg): A biguanide that works by decreasing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity, enabling better glucose uptake by cells.

This combination medication helps in controlling high blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of complications associated with diabetes, and may assist in weight management.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset (due to metformin)
  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration (because of increased urination)
  • Hypoglycemia (when combined with other diabetes medications)
  • Rare but serious: Lactic acidosis (from metformin), a potentially life-threatening condition

Precautions:

  • Kidney/Liver Problems: Consult your doctor if you have kidney or liver issues, as these organs are crucial for metabolizing the medication.
  • Hydration: Ensure proper hydration, as the medication can increase urination, leading to dehydration.
  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Discuss with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
  • Lactic Acidosis: Be aware of the symptoms of lactic acidosis (muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, abdominal discomfort), a rare but serious side effect of metformin, and seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • Hypoglycemia: Regularly monitor blood sugar levels, especially if you're taking other diabetes medications to prevent low blood sugar.

Adherence to a healthy diet and regular exercise is important while taking this medication to maintain optimal blood sugar control. Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are recommended.
