Used For:

  • Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension: Duotrav is a combination of two active ingredients, Travoprost (a prostaglandin analogue) and Timolol (a beta-blocker), used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by increasing the drainage of fluid (Travoprost) and decreasing fluid production (Timolol) within the eye, helping to lower eye pressure and prevent damage to the optic nerve.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Eye redness, discomfort, irritation, dryness, or foreign body sensation in the eye.
  • Less Common Side Effects: Blurred vision, eyelash changes, darkening of the iris (eye color), and eye pain.

Precautions:

  • Eye Conditions: Patients with corneal disease or severe dry eye should use Duotrav cautiously as it can aggravate these conditions.
  • Respiratory and Heart Conditions: Since Timolol is a beta-blocker, it may cause issues for individuals with asthma, COPD, or heart problems like slow heart rate.
  • Use in Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: The safety of Duotrav in pregnancy or breastfeeding is unclear, so it's essential to consult a doctor before use.
