  • Musculoskeletal injuries: Sprains, strains, or other soft tissue injuries

  • Back pain

  • Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)

  • Gout attacks

  • Post-surgical pain

It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and pain.

  • Rash or itching

Less common but serious:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers (serious side effect, especially with long-term use)

  • Liver problems (e.g., jaundice, dark urine, unusual fatigue)

  • Kidney issues (e.g., changes in urine output, swelling in legs/ankles)

  • Heart issues (e.g., heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure with long-term use)

  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions:

  1. Gastrointestinal Risks:

  2. Heart Risks:

    • Long-term use can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure. Use with caution in those with existing heart disease.

  3. Kidney Function:

    • Prolonged use can cause kidney problems. Regular monitoring may be needed, especially for people with existing kidney disease.

  4. Liver Function:

    • Can cause liver enzyme elevation. Monitor liver function during long-term use.

  5. Allergic Reactions:

    • Some individuals may experience allergic reactions such as hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing.

  6. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:

    • Avoid in the third trimester of pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby or interfere with labor. Use cautiously in the first and second trimesters, and consult a healthcare provider.

    • Diclofenac may pass into breast milk, so discuss use during breastfeeding with your doctor.

  7. Interactions with Other Medications:

    • Can interact with blood thinners, other NSAIDs, and antihypertensive drugs. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to avoid dangerous interactions.
