Used For :

  1. Dilates the pupil (mydriasis) for eye exams.

  2. Paralyzes the eye's focusing muscle (cycloplegia).

  3. Helps detect refractive errors, especially in children.

  4. Used before/after certain eye surgeries.

  5. Assists in treating some inflammatory eye conditions.

Side Effects:

  • Blurred vision

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Eye irritation or redness

  • Dry mouth, headache

  • Rarely: confusion, fast heartbeat, hallucinations (more common in children)

Precautions:

  • Avoid activities requiring clear vision (e.g. driving) after use

  • Not recommended for people with narrow-angle glaucoma

  • Use carefully in infants and the elderly

  • Avoid touching the dropper to any surface

  • Remove contact lenses before applying drops
