Used For:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension) (provides stronger control by targeting multiple pathways)

  • Reduces risk of heart attacks and strokes

  • Treats fluid retention (edema) in some cases

Side Effects:

  1. Amlodipine (Calcium Channel Blocker):

    • Swelling in legs or feet (edema)

    • Dizziness or lightheadedness

    • Flushing or warmth in the face

    • Fatigue

    • Rapid heartbeat (palpitations)

  2. Hydrochlorothiazide (Diuretic Component):

    • Frequent urination

    • Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium)

    • Dehydration symptoms (dry mouth, weakness, dizziness)

    • Increased blood sugar (caution in diabetics)

    • Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)

  3. Valsartan (ARB – Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker):

    • Dizziness or low blood pressure (hypotension)

    • Increased potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

    • Fatigue

    • Rarely, kidney problems

Precautions:

  • Avoid in pregnancy (Valsartan can harm the baby)

  • Monitor kidney function, electrolytes & potassium levels regularly

  • Risk of dehydration – drink enough water

  • May increase blood sugar – monitor in diabetics

  • Avoid high-potassium foods (like bananas, oranges) if at risk of hyperkalemia
