Used For:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension) (more effective together)

  • Heart failure management

  • Reduces stroke and heart attack risk

  • Treats fluid retention (edema) in some cases

Side Effects:

  1. Hydrochlorothiazide (Diuretic Component):

    • Frequent urination

    • Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium)

    • Dehydration symptoms (dry mouth, weakness, dizziness)

    • Increased blood sugar (caution in diabetics)

    • Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)

  2. Lisinopril (ACE Inhibitor Component):

    • Dry cough (common side effect)

    • Dizziness or low blood pressure (hypotension)

    • Increased potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

    • Kidney function changes (monitor closely)

    • Rarely, angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, throat – requires emergency care)

Precautions:

  • Avoid in pregnancy (Lisinopril can harm the baby)

  • Monitor kidney function & electrolytes regularly

  • Risk of dehydration – drink enough water

  • May increase blood sugar – monitor in diabetics

  • Avoid high-potassium foods (bananas, oranges) if at risk of hyperkalemia

  • Can cause dizziness – stand up slowly from sitting/lying down
