Used For:

  • Treats bacterial eye infections like conjunctivitis (pink eye)

  • Also used as an oral or IV antibiotic for respiratory, sinus, or skin infections

  • Belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics

  • In ophthalmic (eye drop) form, it provides rapid relief from bacterial eye infections

  • Sometimes used before/after eye surgery to prevent infections

Side Effects (Eye Drops):

  • Eye irritation or burning after application

  • Blurred vision (temporary)

  • Dryness, itching, or redness in the eyes

  • Rare allergic reaction (swelling, rash, difficulty breathing)

  • Superinfection with prolonged use

Precaution:

  • For external use only (if in eye drop form)

  • Avoid use if allergic to fluoroquinolones

  • Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination

  • Remove contact lenses before applying drops and wait 15 minutes to reinsert
