Used For:

  • Osteoarthritis: To relieve pain and inflammation in the joints.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: For pain and inflammation reduction in the joints affected by this autoimmune condition.
  • Acute pain: Used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, including pain following surgery.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: A type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine.
  • Primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain): For the relief of pain associated with menstruation.

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects:
    • Upset stomach, indigestion, or nausea
    • Diarrhea or constipation
    • Headache
    • Dizziness
    • Rash or swelling in the lower legs
  • Serious side effects (less common but more severe):
    • Cardiovascular risks: Increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular issues, particularly with long-term use.

Precautions:

  • Cardiovascular: Celecoxib should be used with caution in individuals with heart disease, high blood pressure, or those at risk for cardiovascular problems due to its potential to increase heart attack or stroke risk.
  • Gastrointestinal: Caution is also needed in individuals with a history of stomach ulcers, bleeding, or gastrointestinal disorders, as NSAIDs can irritate the stomach lining.
  • Kidney and liver function: Celecoxib should be used with care if you have kidney or liver impairment.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy due to the risk of premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (a blood vessel in the heart). Consult a healthcare provider before using during the first two trimesters or while breastfeeding.
