Used For:

  • Severe Bacterial Infections such as:
    • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
    • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
    • Skin and soft tissue infections
    • Bone and joint infections
    • Intra-abdominal infections
    • Septicemia (blood infection)
    • Meningitis
    • Gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:
    • Pain or swelling at the injection site
    • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
    • Rash or mild skin reactions
  • Serious Side Effects (Rare):
    • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
    • Clostridium difficile-related diarrhea
    • Kidney or liver dysfunction
    • Hemolytic anemia (rare)

Precautions:

  • Allergies: Do not use if allergic to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins.
  • Renal/Liver Conditions: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment.
  • Neonates: Special caution in newborns, especially if they have jaundice.
  • Prolonged Use: Can lead to secondary infections (fungal or bacterial).
