Used For:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Cardura contains doxazosin, an alpha-blocker that helps relax the blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow and lowering blood pressure.
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Cardura is also used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH) such as difficulty urinating, incomplete bladder emptying, and urinary frequency, especially at night.

- Dizziness or lightheadedness (especially when standing up)
- Fatigue or tiredness
- Headache
- Swelling in the legs or ankles

- Palpitations or irregular heartbeat

- Runny nose or nasal congestion

Serious Side Effects (Seek medical attention):
- Severe dizziness or fainting, especially after the first dose or with dose increases
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Priapism (a prolonged, painful erection that lasts more than 4 hours)
Precautions:
- First-Dose Effect: The first dose or an increase in dose may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness or fainting, particularly when standing up. It’s recommended to take the first dose at bedtime to reduce this risk.
- Liver Function: Cardura should be used cautiously in individuals with liver disease, as dose adjustments may be necessary.
- Cataract Surgery: If you are scheduled for cataract surgery, inform your ophthalmologist that you are taking Cardura, as it may cause complications during surgery (Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome).
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: The safety of doxazosin during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been well-established. Use only if prescribed by your doctor.
- Drug Interactions: Cardura can interact with other medications, including blood pressure medications, erectile dysfunction drugs (e.g., sildenafil), and some antibiotics. Always inform your doctor about any other medications or supplements you are taking.
