Used For:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Helps lower blood pressure to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems.
  • Heart Failure: Often prescribed to improve symptoms and increase survival.
  • Post-Myocardial Infarction: Used after a heart attack to improve survival rates and decrease the risk of further heart complications.
  • Diabetic Nephropathy: Protects kidney function in patients with diabetes.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Cough: A persistent dry cough is common with ACE inhibitors.
  • Dizziness or Lightheadedness: Especially when standing up, due to blood pressure changes.
  • Fatigue: General tiredness or weakness.
  • Nausea: Some patients may experience gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Elevated Potassium Levels (Hyperkalemia): Can occur, leading to potential heart issues.

Serious side effects (rare):

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential harm to the fetus.
  • Kidney Function: Regular monitoring of kidney function is necessary, especially at the start of treatment.
  • Potassium Levels: Avoid potassium supplements unless advised by a healthcare provider.

Administration:
