Used For:

  • Treats bacterial eye infections such as conjunctivitis and keratitis

  • Used in ear infections (in drop form)

  • Available in eye drops, eye ointments, and injectable forms

  • Effective against Gram-negative bacteria

  • Sometimes combined with steroids (e.g., Tobramycin + Dexamethasone) for infection with inflammation

Side Effects (Eye/Ear drops):

  • Eye irritation, redness, or stinging

  • Temporary blurred vision after application

  • Eye itching or swelling (rare allergic reaction)

  • Headache or increased eye tearing (occasionally)

  • Superinfection if used long-term

Precaution:

  • For external use only (eye or ear) – do not ingest

  • Avoid use if allergic to aminoglycosides (class of antibiotics)

  • Do not wear contact lenses while using eye drops
