Used For:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension) (more effective than Losartan alone)

  • Reduces stroke risk in hypertensive patients

  • Treats fluid retention (edema) in some cases

  • Protects kidneys in diabetic patients (by reducing pressure and fluid buildup)

Side Effects:

  1. Losartan (ARB Component):

    • Dizziness or lightheadedness

    • Fatigue

    • Increased potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

    • Low blood pressure (hypotension)

    • Kidney problems (rare but possible)

  2. Hydrochlorothiazide (Diuretic Component):

    • Frequent urination

    • Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium)

    • Dehydration symptoms (dry mouth, muscle cramps, weakness)

    • Increased blood sugar (caution in diabetics)

    • Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)

Precautions:

  • Avoid in pregnancy (Losartan can harm the baby)

  • Monitor kidney function & electrolytes regularly

  • Risk of dehydration – drink plenty of fluids

  • May increase blood sugar – monitor in diabetics

  • Can cause dizziness – stand up slowly
