Used For:

  • Primarily used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high eye pressure)

  • Reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) to help prevent vision loss

  • Belongs to the beta-blocker class of medications

  • Sometimes used in the treatment of high blood pressure and angina (chest pain)

  • Helps reduce the production of fluid in the eye to lower pressure

Side Effects (Eye drops):

  • Eye irritation or redness

  • Stinging or burning in the eye

  • Blurred vision

  • Dry eyes or discomfort

  • Rare: dizziness, headache, or changes in heart rate (especially with systemic absorption)

Precaution:

  • Not recommended for people with severe asthma, COPD, or heart block

  • Use with caution in individuals with diabetes, as it may mask signs of low blood sugar

  • Avoid contact with eyes after administration of other eye medications unless directed

  • Press finger to the inner corner of the eye for a minute after applying to reduce systemic absorption

  • Caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding – consult your doctor before use

  • Do not stop suddenly without medical advice as it may worsen heart conditions
