Used For:

• Glaucoma: Reduces intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
• Ocular Hypertension: Helps lower elevated eye pressure, which may prevent damage to the optic nerve.

Mechanism of Action: Betaxolol works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye), thereby lowering intraocular pressure. This helps to prevent further damage to the optic nerve, which can result from high eye pressure.

Side Effects:

• Temporary stinging or burning upon application.
• Dry eyes or blurred vision.
• Eye discomfort or irritation.
• Rarely: Dizziness, fatigue, or slow heart rate (bradycardia).

Precautions:

• Heart Conditions: Use with caution in patients with a history of heart disease or those on beta-blocker therapy.
• Asthma or Respiratory Issues: May cause breathing difficulties in individuals with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare provider before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Contact Lenses: Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
