Product Description
Used For:
Montelukast is primarily used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma and to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes. It belongs to a class of medications known as leukotriene receptor antagonists, which work by blocking the action of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation, constriction of airways, and allergic reactions.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of montelukast may include headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and cough. Some individuals may experience mood changes, including agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Although rare, montelukast has been associated with serious side effects such as allergic reactions (manifested by rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing), liver problems, or behavioral changes, particularly in children. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any concerning side effects.
Precautions:
There are several precautions to consider when taking montelukast. It should not be used to treat acute asthma attacks; instead, a rescue inhaler should be used for immediate relief. Montelukast may interact with other medications, so inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. If you have a history of mood or behavioral changes, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss the risks and benefits of montelukast with your healthcare provider.
Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions and dosing recommendations when taking Asmofen or any medication containing montelukast, and consult them if you have any questions or concerns about its use.
